Missing Light Leads To Stolen Gun, Drug Busts In Chicopee: Police

Police in Hampden County said they found a gun stolen out of North Carolina and drugs when a routine traffic stop took a sharp turn over the weekend.

Chicopee police spotted the car on Chicopee Street Sunday, May 7, and noticed it didn't have a front license plate or working driver-side brake light, authorities said. They pulled the vehicle over on Grattan Street a few minutes later. 

Officers said the driver — a 35-year-old Easthampton man — didn't have a license, and the two passengers weren't wearing their seatbelts. Police arrested the three men and searched the car, where they found several bags of what appeared to be marijuana and a pistol under the passenger seat, authorities said. It had been reported stolen out of Raleigh, NC, in 2020. 

Turon Bowens, the driver, was charged with: 

  • Possess to distribute Class D drug
  • Receiving stolen property
  • Possession of ammunition without an FID (Subsequent offense)
  • Improper storage of a firearm
  • Firearm Violation with three prior violent/drug crimes
  • Possess large-capacity firearm
  • Carrying a firearm without a license (Second offense)
  • Several traffic violations

Jotsan Rosado, a 35-year-old from Springfield, was charged with: 

  • Refuse to identify self
  • Receiving stolen property
  • Possession of ammunition without an FID (Subsequent offense)
  • Improper storage of a firearm
  • Firearm Violation with three prior violent/drug crimes
  • Possess large-capacity firearm
  • Carrying a firearm without a license (Second offense)
  • Possess to distribute Class D drug

Fatiah Garland, a 33-year-old from Springfield, was charged with: 

  • Refuse to identify self
  • Receiving stolen property
  • Possession of ammunition without an FID (Subsequent offense)
  • Improper storage of a firearm
  • Firearm Violation with three prior violent/drug crimes
  • Possess large-capacity firearm
  • Carrying a firearm without a license (Second offense)
  • Possess to distribute Class D drug
